Federal action is needed now to improve health care for Canadians

With the announcement of a federal election in Canada on April 28, 2025, the Royal College is pleased to share our advocacy priorities and materials to support members who are interested in advocating during this election period. As always, our goal is to ensure health care issues are prioritized by all parties and candidates.

Royal College advocacy priorities

Election 2025 is the opportunity for federal politicians to show their commitment to improving health care in Canada.

Specialist physicians support patients facing complex, chronic, and life-threatening conditions, but their efforts are limited by an underperforming health care system. The Royal College is calling for action in three areas to improve access to care in Canada:

  1. Increase health system capacity by ensuring access to both primary and specialty care across the country, including in rural and remote areas as well as in Indigenous and other underserved communities.
  2. Advance reconciliation in health care and reduce health inequities by ensuring Indigenous patients receive timely health care and addressing systemic racism in the health care system.
  3. Address the continuing toxic drug crisis that disproportionately impacts Indigenous and rural and remote communities.

Members interested in advocating during the federal election should contact their local candidates. Advocacy materials are available on the Royal College website, such as:
